In these times, it often seems that some of the most simple outdoor activities, those that many of us grew up with, have fallen by the wayside. Games of hide and seek, hop-scotch and skipping rope seem to be distant memories. The simple act of flying a kite also falls into this group of fading memories.
A bit of nostalgia for days gone by might have been the reason behind attending a small town kite festival. Held annually in Swift Current (Saskatchewan), the Windscape Kite Festival hosts over 40 national and international kiters. In addition to competitions for the largest and most unique kites, there are several other categories such as; team and individual competitions, high speed acrobatics and synchronized multi-kite programs choreographed to music.
The agility and control shown by the kiters in the acrobatic division was amazing and the sight of these colourful and unique kites speeding through the sky with just the wind needed for flight was a return to the days of good old fashioned summer fun.
