The landscape of Canada is one of the most diverse in the world, dramatically different from west to east and from north to south with the Canadian Prairies being right in the middle. While known for its crop fields that seems to run all the way to the horizon, the landscape of the Prairies can provide wonderful contrasts. Often the various crops planted side by side have very different colours and textures, making for some fascinating perspectives.
While on a road trip from Saskatoon to Swift Current (Saskatchewan) one summer, we pulled onto a side-road for a break when I noticed a stark contrast between two fields nearby. The clear delineation of the two fields seems to shout “boundary line!" to me. Between the two properties was an old wire fence, that had collapsed many years ago, but it seemed a physical barrier wasn't needed as the line was clear.
Of course the Prairies are “big sky” country and the minimalism of the land in contrast with the sky is emphasized with the composition of this image.
